Volunteer Requirements for Working with Children and Vulnerable Adults

Any adult (18 and older) wanting to volunteer with children and adults alike must fulfill the

following requirements as mandated by the Unites States Conference of Catholic Bishops

(USCCB) and the Diocese of Baton Rouge.

To volunteer . . .

You will need to be background checked by completing a background screening application

which includes volunteer history and background information. This confidential information will

be entered into a data base maintained at and for the Diocese of Baton Rouge.

Next, you will watch a video produced by the Safe and Sacred Learning Center. This

training will ensure you have the proper knowledge to serve those whom you minister.

You will be required to take an online test after viewing the video. Safeguarding is not

just about responding to abuse after it occurs—it’s about preventing harm before it

happens through intentional, proactive measure.

In addition, the Diocese of Baton Rouge has established a Code of Ethics that all

employees and volunteers need to abide by. A Code of Ethics helps prevent inappropriate

behavior and protects the reputation of all ministers.
